My mother, who uses her computer (solely) to play PopCap games, check her yahoo mail (not even gmail! -.-') and (once a month) winamp decided she *needs* (not wants, needs!) a new laptop; I'm open for suggestions. -.-'
Checking yahoo mail require AT LEAST an Alienware! J/K Everything which is not black will be good. The last year I bought for my mother a pink netbook, women love pink stuffs.
The laptop I'm using right now cost about 100 dollars at Wal-Mart. It's basic, runs windows 7, has a dvd burnder, and would easily do everything your mom needs. Seriously, don't spend a lot.
I'd go for Acer Netbook, or just plain Acer, unless you wanna go all out and get her a gaming PC. Considering she'll never use it to its full capacity, it might be an investment.
mother deserves the best! Get her something which can make her Smile so that you can Smile back from heart. All the best! http://silenceriver.blogspot.com/
my father asked me the same question a week ago and used his last laptop for the same reason your mother does. Well, i searched for something that only looked good on the pic and was cheap. I dont think you need 4GB RAM for checking your emails ^^
@all: Your suggestions were really helpful. At the moment, I'm thinking about a Lenovo. I had an Acer once and it was completely rubbish. And I have a Toshiba currently and it has heating problems. So, Lenovo sounds good. I'll keep you posted.
Lenovo's are pretty good. I had a thinkpad a good long while back and it was really solid. I'll also second the couple people who said iPads. I've found for not so techie people they do wonders (unless they like flash heavy sites of course).

find something cheap and sell it like it is the best computer brand out there.
ReplyDeleteShe could do that on a netbook, right? That'd save hundreds off of a conventional laptop and still allow her happy games and emails.

ReplyDeleteget an ipad :) if she needs a computer for like business stuff- even if it's 1-2 a month get a mac.
ReplyDeleteNever ever a Toshiba Satellite. Cheap, but I've never known someone to have one as long as a year without a serious problem cropping up.
ReplyDeletei agree with @TIMOTHY BOWEN
ReplyDeleteget an e-machines tell her it's likened to a sony waio :D
ReplyDeleteSame as the above. Get a cheap one and be done with it.
ReplyDeleteWalmart special? Get her something easy, and tell her it has all the new tech installed.
ReplyDeleteMy awful little note/netbook from Acer was around £140 and does all I need it to do! Great idea for a blog btw, very original :)

ReplyDeleteget the cheapest laptop you can find :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe she would do fine with some sort of tablet?
ReplyDeleteThen she can play her popcap everywhere
My mom loves her ipad. They should converse.
ReplyDeleteTablet is the best.
ReplyDeleteGet one of those lap tops with interchangeable covers and just keep changing it every month, your mum will never know.
ReplyDeleteGet the most basic one you can find, if she doesn't need processing power. Even a phone or a netbook will do.
ReplyDeleteBe a good son and get her a new one, get her a cheap one obviously its not like she needs a gaming laptop although it looks like she is a power gamer.
ReplyDeleteYour mom sounds like my mom!
ReplyDeleteHey maybe we're brothers!
That's an awesome mom getting Laptops when ever she feels like she needs a new one lol "], If i were her son I'd keep the left behind ones!

I hate to be an advocate for violence but pimp slap and tell her she does not need one.
ReplyDeleteThen go on to recommend something like one of the chrome books, or a second hand machine on the cheap.
Depending, you could probably get yourself an ok and cheap one off of NewEgg.com.
ReplyDeleteSomething cheap and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteLenovo thinkpads are the best, hands down. Great deal for that price boy. as a computer repair girl, I know for sure :)
